A Reasonable Expectation Of Privacy?

ButtChocolate, a highly-favored and well-known commenter just told me that he was banned for awhile, also. BECAUSE JOHN CHEESE READ HIS MESSAGES. As in, private messages. Granted, it's their website and they can do as they please. BUT. Why have a "private messaging" system if anyone in the chain of command can read them? Unless it's because Leighty,(Cheese), is Pargin's boyfriend, (Wong).

BC said Leighty banned him because of the "lowlife" he was messaging with, or some bullshit like that.

Delete your messages, people. Come here and be anonymous and talk all you want.

Here, you can have your privacy, while smiling and waving to all the Cracked eyeballs peeled this way, lol.

    1. Indeed. They would say, "We own the site, we can do whatever we want". Makes you wonder just how much power Cheese has over there...I still think he was the one that cloned me.

    2. I want you to verify that you're seriously wondering if this is legal. Can you use those words, please? I'd love the screengrab.

    3. Feel free. Karl Small dick also put a link in his sad little blog showing my real name. From a, supposedly, secure forum. Is that legal?

    5. Did you really just make a small dick joke about Karl's last name? Come on, at least TRY for your insults. Be creative! I think I'd even prefer puns about trees.

And, since Karl Smallwood is Karl Smallwood's real name, why are you so intimidated by putting yours to the public? He's willing to stand behind his words, why aren't you? Oh no! He told people who I really am! Now I might get death threats from people... and *gasp!*

Oh wait! It makes sense now! Maybe they were only reacting so harshly to the comments to.... maybe... protect the writer!!!!

      Oh my god.
But your blog complaining about this like a toddler who who had their toy taken away is totally justified.

    6. We're Cracked readers. Making dick jokes is part of the deal.

Please, cut the shit about real names and stuff. If you're right, then why are Cheese and Wong writing under aliases?

Aaaaaand another comparison to being toddlers. Thanks for making our point :)

It's sad, we're kind of alike you know. We're both writers who hate seeing injustice online. The only difference is the girls that I get to sleep with are 20 years old.

      Good luck!

    11. Yeah, mine have been potty-trained, at least. Tell you what, let me come there and tell my side of the story, (in other words, the truth), and Ill just sign right up with my real name. By the way, it's Randy Ballew. I have nothing to hide. But, I'll tell you one thing. You're wrong about me and what happened. You've been fed a clever, but deceitful, line.

      See you there?

    12. Oh, Karl? Remember this?

Talk about spin-control, wow. You didn’t bother to mention that those forum posts were a year ago, back before I realized how anal the forum is. The “Aren’t I wonderful” bit came from the “I am amazing!” crap you have to agree to before you can join the site. You know what? To hell with it. I’m not going to stay here and defend myself from one of Pargin’s toadies. Yeah, I’m 55 with three cats, a 2011 Cadillac in the garage and a sweet revenue stream from the books I’ve had published.

Whatever. You and the other flunkies sure are interested in a measly little Reddit blog, why exactly is that? Hmmm? Afraid that a pattern of behavior stretching back years might be exposed to the glaring light of the internet? Why not ignore us if we’re so minor?

Carry on, sparky. The fun hasn’t even started yet…

You're obviously the one who feels strongly about this, so if you want to try and state your case, there are a bunch of ways to contact me on my website. Choose your poison.

    1. You mean the same kind of ratio as there is on any Cracked article?

Wow, it's almost as if, you know, IT WERE THE RULE ON THE INTERNET.

Seriously, don't you people know ANYTHING about how these things go??

      1. Page views =/= readers. TONS of people click by mistake and click away immediately, or click, read a few lines and click away out of disinterest.

      2. Number of commenters =/= number of readers. The number of people who comment on anything is ALWAYS, ALWAYS just a small fraction of the number of people who read it.

Do you honestly don't know about this?

I'm more bothered that he doesn't realise that sarcasm is situational. If it quacks like a duck and walks like a duck and there are already lots of ducks around, chances are it IS a duck. So my response was the exact opposite of irony, but I'm tired of explaining this to people who obviously don't understand irony in the first place :P

  5. Hey... so...

You made a blog because a site that provides articles for FREE for the public to read (yes they make money... I'm aware of that)pissed you off because they are reacting harshly to threats to one of their writers? They are defending one of their people. I think it's commendable, and this blog appears more like a vanity than a legitimate use of space.

But considering you're allowed to your opinions, continue on, regardless of the fact that your humanity is probably suffering as a result.

And, if you delete this comment, consider yourself one who hold themselves to double standards.

    Have a nice day!

    2. Being banned from Cracked doesn't mean they can't read the articles. It just means they can't express their opinions about them. Big deal. Why is there a reason to get upset? Considering I think cracked is a really awesome website, I hate to see the negativity over not being able to comment. I think it's unwarranted.

And oh no, you called my comment stupid! My heart's breaking. I demand an apology!

Nope. We made a blog because two assholes acted like the assholes that they are for no reason whatsoever, and we want to expose them as assholes.

      Clear enough?

"They are defending one of their people."

Which is why they allowed the comment giving out Cheese's address to remain visible for DAYS, even though everyone was condemning it and many were asking for it to be deleted. Perfectly logical.

    4. Different anon than the other two, I've also been keeping tabs on the situation. I'm thinking the reedit page should be renamed, and perhaps you shouldn't use the term, Cracked pricks.

I'm sure we were all pissed about bans at first but I've come to realize that the jackasses there mainly consist of Wong/Cheese, their groupies, and people who like forums with no smilys. However, the aftermath of all this has made me realize just by reading recent comments and articles that the majority of the site falls under not-jackasses.

Just saying, you should make it really clear that you aren't attacking Cracked and this is a Wong/Cheese thing, like how they made it very clear that they think all commenters are a slew of nasty things. It could stop stupid comments like the one above this by people who know jack shit about what they're talking about.

      Delete
    5. Doubtful. They seem to laugh at the idea of a David taking on Goliath. I've got news for them, there are things going on behind the scenes that will blow everyone's mind, very shortly.

And to be crystal clear, I AM attacking Cracked. Because Pargin/Leighty seem to have all the power there. Notice how Jack O'Brien hasn't said squat? This hateful shit has been going on for too long and it ends right here. Right now.

      Delete
    6. That's fine, we can disagree on that. I'm thinking Jack hasn't said shit because he still trying to screw his mind around it or hoping that it dies out.

Still, people like Gladstone got a silent jab, then again he's one of the few writers I've seen that is capable of taking on the comment section and doing so with grace. That and Cracked still has a bunch of regular writers who don't call you and myself names.

However, you purport that there is a type of conspiracy going on so I'll happily continue lurking until you lay down some revelations.

    7. If you can enter the forums, all that you seek is there, just waiting to be found. We're just gonna hurry the process a bit.

Sorry but you're starting to sound like non-helpful NPCs that dispense sagelike wisdom is a very cryptic manner and if I didn't have insomnia and mac and cheese, would just go to sleep and ignore.

    9. "mac and cheese"

Now, I'm not sure if this was an intentional pun, but that's reasonably funny.

    11. Thank you to everyone. I'm actually speechless for once, lol.

  7. Um, that's actually terrifying. This was completely unrelated to Cheese, but I had a very personal conversation with someone over private messaging last summer, with someone that had gotten in trouble with the mods before. We discussed a taboo subject, and I would not have been half that candid if I thought Cheese or Wong were looking over my shoulder. I guess it was naive of me to think they couldn't, but it really hadn't occurred to me...

I am glad that they let ButtChocolate back in. I guess that would have led to a pretty extreme backlash if they hadn't.

    -(Cracked handle): Bannef

    ReplyDelete
  8. Hey, old friend! Yeah, you assume "private messaging" means just that. Sure does seem like Leighty/Cheese has a whole lot of power, just to be a writer, huh? BC specifically said Cheese, not Wong, who would seem more likely to do so.

    ReplyDelete
  9. By the way, everyone. I just spoke to Gladstone, truly a gentleman. He said his article the other day reflects his thoughts on the matter, and otherwise, he's staying out of the whole mess. Class, all the way.

    1. Gladstone seems like a pretty cool guy.

    2. Oh Gosh, can you please state explicitly what you think Gladstone's opinion on this matter is? Please tell us what you thought his article was saying on the matter. Please please please.

      Delete
    3. You're getting creepy, anon. Just saying.

Quite frankly, if you just want to pretend that Ono said this or that, you should just follow Cheesewong's example and decide he said it whether he actually did or not. After all, we've already been accused of supporting death threats and fucking children, so you can hardly do worse.

      Delete
    4. Ok anon, not sure what game you're playing, but here is MY take on it. Gladstone said that his feelings on the matter was stated in his last article. Read the article and draw your own conclusions. He also said he is staying neutral on the matter.

As far as the legality of reading private messages, I'm not a lawyer so I don't know how legal it is. It's their website, I assume they can do what they want. Is it shitty? Yes. That's all I'm going to say on the matter. You have Google. Use it.

      Delete
    5. I was bowled over by his article. A wonderfully mature and wise attitude. I respect the guy for that

      Delete
    6. He also likes and respects his readers. I told him that he was our favorite Cracked writer and he got modest on me, lol. A true gentleman.

      Delete
  10. Is Butt Chocolate still banned or is he back on Cracked?

    ReplyDelete
  11. It's not the abuse that makes Wong publicly denounce commenters. For every single death threat, there are hundreds of people congratulating Cheese for him turning his life around. For every Epictroll69lol, there are hundreds of witty commenters that make quips and trade puns, and improve the worth of an article. Since the advent of the topvotes tab, it's incredibly easy to circumvent any shitty comments. Many of the commenters are aspiring Cracked writers, and regularly contribute to photoplasties. One would think Cracked would value its commenters above the casual readers, many of who presumably skim through the articles.

What Wong actually hates is criticism. Because, like I said before, criticism can challenge intellectual and moral authority. A reputed magazine/website maintains its credibility by actually having real writers, not shutting down criticism. Wong tries to preach redistribution and rational thinking, but doesn't want you to know that he was a creationist and voted for Bush twice.(Both you can learn through Wong's post history)

The John Cheese article probably had the strongest backlash for a Cracked article, because while the average Cracked reader may not be a scientist, or political science/sociology major, he does have an idea about what's funny. And for an article criticizing low-brow humor through violent imagery, the article wan't funny. It was evident to most of the readers, who called him out in the comments. Never before was the vacuous, humorless condescension of many Cracked writers(Hi Christina!) more apparent. This is why Chesse and Wong resorted to moderating the comments section, not because some unknown guy allegedly wished alcohol poisoning to Cheese in facebook.

I still like the pop-culture articles because I don't have to cross-check every fact. The articles providing interesting factoids are also fun, but any article where Cracked makes assertions on its own is shady.
